How to argue without hurting each other

Conflict is normal. What matters is how you come back together afterwards.

Samuel Okafor

Every couple argues. The couples who do well aren't the ones who never disagree, but the ones who know how to repair.

Start with a soft opening. Instead of “You never help”, try “I'm feeling stretched this week, can we look at the chores together?”

Take a break when things get heated. Agree on a signal, step away for twenty minutes and come back when you both feel calmer.

Finish by naming one thing you understand better about your partner. It turns a fight into a conversation.

Taking the first step is often the hardest part.
