Quieting the inner critic

That harsh voice in your head isn't the truth. Here's how to talk back to it.

Hannah Reyes

Most of us have an inner critic: a voice that points out every mistake and rarely gives credit.

The first step is noticing it. When you catch a harsh thought, write it down exactly as you heard it.

Then ask what you would say to a friend who had the same thought. Write that response down too, and read it back.

Over time this practice makes the critic quieter. Therapy can help if the voice feels too loud to manage on your own.

Taking the first step is often the hardest part.
